There are a number of key developments to watch out for in the land of theme parks in 2017, as well as new parks to visit in alternative destinations. We’ve highlighted our four favourites here.
Orlando, typically thought of as the home of the theme park, has two big openings this year. Firstly there’s Universal’s much anticipated Volcano Bay. A brand new waterpark where thrills and relaxation flow in perfect harmony. At the heart of the park stands Krakatau, the mighty Fire & Water Volcano, towering 200 feet above the tropical landscape. Krakatau streams waterfalls by day and fiery lava effects by night. Inside the volcano, you can brave a variety of heart pounding water slides or perhaps you might prefer to relax on Waturi beach at the foot of mighty Krakatau. Whatever experience you are looking for, there is something for all ages and ‘bravery’ levels at Volcano Bay. Opens 1st June 2017.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is set to see its largest ever expansion with the opening of the mythical world of Pandora. This AVATAR inspired land is a visual experience of floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests and soaring Banshees for guests to see, hear and touch. Pandora includes a family friendly attraction called Na’Vi River Journey, where guests set out in a canoe to explore a mysterious sacred river hidden within the rainforest. No firm opening date yet other than Summer 2017.
Dubai Parks And Resorts officially opened a couple of months ago with a ‘soft’ opening, but it is now ready to greet guests on a bigger scale and this is certainly one to consider visiting in 2017. Three parks in one, including Legoland Dubai, Motiongate and Bollywood Parks, tickets are available for individual parks or as a multi-park ticket. Everyone is familiar with Legoland, but Legoland Dubai includes its first waterpark which younger members of the family will love. Bollywood Parks is the first theme park in the world dedicated to all things Bollywood. There are five zones inspired by Bollywood blockbusters to keep you entertained, 16 rides and attractions and an 856 seat theatre which will be staging spectacular performances Bollywood-style. Motiongate is a Hollywood inspired theme park offering an immersive, thrilling journey into the world of film including DreamWorks, Colombia Pictures, Smurfs and Lionsgate. Entertainment includes stunt shows, rollercoasters, real-life movie sets, the Smurf Village and Po’s Kung Fu Academy. Dubai Parks tickets are available as part of your holiday package to Dubai. Simply ask us about adding them when you are booking your holiday as they have some fantastic introductory offer prices to pull the crowds in.
Closer to home is The Land Of Legends which opened this summer near Antalya, Turkey and is receiving some great reviews. There is a fabulous hotel attached to the park which caters well for the family market. There are multiple restaurants, shops, a central canal, and lots of entertainment options here including a full kids entertainment programme and regular live music. The park itself is a combination waterpark and aquarium. The Waterfront Kingdom has more than 70 slides, a wave pool, a surf pool, a lazy river and a crazy river, white sandy beaches, the Typhooncoaster, and a 5D cinema. The Marine Zone is home to thousands of the most beautiful creatures of the Mediterranean Sea. Come up close with dolphins and sharks on an underwater safari, or enjoy the swim with dolphins experience.
